DAY 62 THURSDAY FEB 23, 2012

I do love the emails telling me what I can write about and what I can't. They are appreciated and thanks. Last time I checked, Fuck you very much, stop reading if you are offended. I enjoy and support a lot of writers, and in checking through my blogging of over 600 days at sometimes 4 a day postings, I have supported more people than offended. Of course sometimes I support someone that inspires me, come back a few weeks or months later, and am shocked or at least surprised by what is going on.
I have read Kate's story for 2 years and followed her from 316 pounds down to 197 pounds in March of last year. Photos, stories, and the ups and downs of a Mid-western woman getting healthy. I got inspired, I lost some weight as well, and ok terrific. Today I checked on and read that Kate was hovering around 230 pounds, and her honesty that she was just not into doing what she needed to do to get back on track was unsettling, but not my problem and her mature decision. No waffling, no angst, she knows what to do and does not want to. I respect that, although I don't agree with it. Her blog, her life or obese shortened life, not my place to change her. I did catch this little post on Tuesday, and it got me a little sad. Check it out, it's a dessert she posted for her weight loss fans to try, as in Try This Tuesday. For shits and giggles I got the caloric guide out, and her snack, without the pudding or Ice Cream or Whipped Cream she insists adds to the flavor is 4,000 calories.
Again, I hope she is happy, she is a sweet girl, and if she wants to maintain herself at 230 pounds, that is not anyone's problem. Posting a snack that is at best dangerous to her readers, stamped with her condoning this under "Try This Tuesday" is criminal. If you guys are writing blogs to show what you have succeeded at and failed at, and you all want to pass on the good stuff, this recipe coming from someone that lost 120 pounds at one time, without any disclaimers, could cause someone to try it out as a diet aid. I am not saying that we are all morons and would jump in. I can guarantee a handful of people will see the weight loss, see the snack, and add it to their plan because Kate says to try it. I am not kidding, it happens every day.
I lost some weight. I have lost very little weight over the past 3 months, although the last month has been great as I am following a plan. I did not post over the past 3 months that..."I lost 200 plus pounds, and today I ate 3 slices of pizza, try this !!" Again, I blog for me, so following what I do would be silly, unless I tell you that it helped me. Just saying, no hating...
I got some interesting comments from April about my term "I blog for me." Let me clear that up for her and anyone that cares. I blog because it makes me conscious that I should not eat as much as I want. I read other blogs for inspiration and for shits and giggles. That said if I inspire you, then awesome, although that is not my objective. If I write something heinous it is not necessarily meant to help, cajole or hurt someone. It is just my train of thought that I write down. If you want to know what I have done, and some of the tricks I use, email me I will share. They might not work for you. Again, Blogging for me, means it is an exercise that helps me lose weight, not preach.
Hoping all is well on this balmy February morning

  1. There is just no accounting for people who feel the need to attack for no reason. I understand your need to put the unvarnished truth out there but not everyone is as appreciative as I am. There are bound to be some offenses. It just goes with the territory with what you do. Try to move on and don't let the negativism affect your own journey. Hugs.

  2. Does she eat that entire "salad" herself or are there other people willing to eat such a gluttonous mixture of pointless crap???

  3. Thanks for referring to my comments as 'Interesting', I was worried you would have a totally different description. Thank you for taking a minute to make things more clear, I do appreciate it. I kinda 'get it' now, not that it matters in the grand scheme of things. Have a good day.

  4. Alan, I've asked you this before and I'm asking again: How can you stand women? How can any man stand women? I am one and I can't stand 'em.

  5. OMG, Snickers Salad. I just about fell out of my chair, and I'm still trying to catch my breath - I think I hyperventilated from the shock of it. I have to confess something disgusting and that no one would approve of. I don't talk here often because I'm only trying to lose 10-15 (down five from a year ago and it's "real" five, not crap and pee, you know... but my point is that I know I'm not in the "in crowd" here) but I have to ratchet my calories way down to take any weight off, and there are a few select bad days when I eat little more than a couple of big Snickers bars. That's because a couple of big snickers bars can add up close to 1,200 calories. It's because I'm a candy fiend, and I indulge like a junkie when I decide to indulge. Not right - not good - not nutritious... but I never, ever in a million years would have dreamed up Snickers and apples with pudding and Cool Whip. Just put the glucose IV right in your vein if you're going to do that. Reminds me of my friend's (weight-challenged) brother who poured Captain Crunch cereal in a bowl with milk and then laced the whole thing with chocolate syrup.

I just went back and read the comments there about bricks of cream cheese being thrown in and I think I'm going to throw up.

  6. I am absolutely speechless at the idea of a Snickers salad ... seriously?

I post recipes on my blog -- and I include all the nutritional info. I carefully count all my calories, protein etc. but I've often thought that I should clarify that these are specific to my ingredients and my portions ... Perhaps I should include a disclaimer just in case somebody tries a recipe and has a snickers salad to accompany it -- ya, that combination just won't work!

  7. I just now went and looked at the recipe/link. I have heard of this before, but it never even sounded like a good idea to me when I was 333 pounds.... much less while trying to lose. Besides rotting your teeth right out of your head, this little treat will pack on some serious pounds.
