I got an e-mail from someone named Anonymous, and although I fear their parents never loved them, saddling them with a moniker like that, the email gave me some thought. It was a short little note, telling me to check out a blog of someone that they think was rambling on and bullshitting the world. I am not sure when I became the blogging detective, but I jumped over to the spot and read a little. Alissa is using Weight Watchers I think, in an effort to lose weight and get healthy. With millions of people using WW, I can't argue with the appeal. Those little frozen pizzas are tasty also, so it's a win/win. WW gets rich, I get 4 for $10 frozen pizzas that grow frostbite in the freezer. But I digress, and back to the blog.
Alissa weighed 288 in 2008 and weighs in now at 207. She is going back to running, does her best, and seems to be fine. On the whole, she seems happy, doing her thing, and on the road to getting to where she wants to be. The only fault I see, and it's personal not something anyone else should care about, is her weight loss TICKER. My opinion, and reflected in my ticker, is to keep it accurate. Let's all reset the widgets to January 1, 2013, and go forward with some attempt to not bullshit ourselves. I can plop one on that says lost 250 pounds, but honestly, that ship sailed in June, crashed with a hurricane, and is now moving along much better. I lost some weight, I gained some, and now this year, I am down 2 whole pounds. Alissa should follow suit, it will reflect her efforts, and gain her instant respect amongst the fatties that check. Otherwise, I wish her continued success. Her blog lists that she is in no hurry, and I feel she is being 100% honest with that.
Back to me, I had eggs on a plate for breakfast. As usual, with my Iced Coffee. Nothing exciting going on except I am going to the Mohegan Sun Casino for the day Sunday. Needs me some gambling time, and Sunday works !!! Until later, eat well....
After years of reading about weight loss in order to get my mojo in gear--and really, for me, it took ages to get in the right mindset, blogging heljped--I know keeping it off is THE MOTHER. I knew it before I lost loads and I sure as hell know it now fighting the crapass regain.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have always updated my ticker at least monthly. Often weekly, with weigh-ins. I just don't like to see a fake number.
let's face it, anyone using a MyFitness ticker can update it in 30 seconds. It's pretty easy. No excuse. I dunno about the other tickers...
I had eggs with extra egg whites with onions, watermelon and papaya and coffee. I gotta get a handle on this appetite monster. Sheesh. Pain in the tuchis.
Take care, A.
Oops, different gmail singed in. But you know who I am. :D
FWIW Allan, I think you're being a bit hard on yourself. No need to reset your widget for the new year - if you lost 276 pounds and regained X, just reset the number to 276-X. It's the people who display the old number months, or even years, after they've bought new pants who aren't being honest.
ReplyDeleteIf you seriously feel the need to reset your widget, don't throw out the old one completely. You should still give yourself credit for that one. Here's an idea, if you truly want to have a widget for just a few lbs. lost.
ReplyDeleteReset it to 250 lbs. lost. Screen shot that and save it as and image. Maybe add the words "as of 2012." Then right under that (the screen shot image) have your identical-looking new widget (a truly operating one) with 2 lbs. lost. Maybe even add some text explaining that it's for 2013 and forward.
I really like the idea of starting 2013 with a new ticker. I am going to do it. Brilliant really. Lord knows its a new year and I need a new start. Thanks for the idea~Gracie
ReplyDeleteYou ok, allan?
